I'm not a founder or sponsor of Boko Haram sect - Ali Modu Sheriff

Tony Nwajei's photo.

Former Borno governor Ali Modu- Sheriff who recently was appointed Chairman of PDP says he's not a sponsor or founder of Boko Haram. His emergence as the new PDP chairman this week was heavily criticized with Femi Fani-Kayode calling him the indisputable founder of Boko Haram.

Exonerating himself, Ali Modu- Sheriff - "Boko Haram wanted to kill me at a time because they believed that I was the one that reported them to President Umaru Yar’Adua to destroy their enclave.

"It was after I left government that they moved to their different camps and bushes. Why should they kill my brother? Why should they kill my family if I am a sponsor of Boko Haram? Is there anywhere in the world that you sponsor people to kill you?”

"Let me give you a typical example. Just a week ago, all the social media planted my picture showing me with the card of APC joining the party. At that time, nobody wrote that I was Boko Haram. They said Sheriff was going back to APC; they were showing a card when we registered with APC before I left the party. We went to our villages to do it; that village they are showing on the social media was a village that was taken over by Boko Haram for the past three years. So, how could I have gone there to register?
"Few days after I became the Chairman of the PDP, Ali Sheriff is now Boko Haram; so if you are in APC you are not a Boko Haram. Throughout my period in APC, nobody said I was Boko Haram. Immediately I left the APC, I was termed Boko Haram," he said.

"Nobody in my family or relation is Boko Haram or close to any Boko Haram member. These people that wanted to kill me, up till today, if they have the chance, they will kill me because they think I reported them to Yar’Adua who leveled their places of worship and along the line, their leader was killed.
"And that was my crime and why they wanted to kill me. But people that are afraid of me changed the story and they keep on doing it. Every day, they write different things but you and I know that nobody is above the laws of Nigeria. I believe that President Buhari, even if it is his son or blood brother that is a Boko Haram, he will arrest and prosecute him. So the allegation is the figment of the imagination of the writers," he said.

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni wins fifth term

5th Term/over 30 years in Office? They should just crown him King. Lol Uganda's election commission has declared incumbent President Yoweri Museveni, who has been in office since his rebel group seized power in 1986, the winner of the country's 2016 elections. He won with 60.7% of the votes while his closest competitor, opposition leader Kizza Besigye, had 35.3%, the commission said. The country had a voter turnout of 63%.

More interestingly, opposition leader Besigye was arrested and two people died at his opposition campaign office. Dictatorial moves? He was put under "preventative arrest" at his home in Kampala on Friday, along with six officials from his party. Authorities detained the officials because they allegedly planned to announce unauthorized results tallied by the opposition.

This is not also not Besigye's first attempt to unseat his former boss. He lost presidential bids in 2001, 2006 and 2011.

Hospital Pays $17K Ransom to Hackers Who Infiltrated Its Computer Network

VIDEO: Hospital Pays $17K Ransom to Hackers Who Infiltrated Its Computer Network

A Los Angeles hospital paid a nearly $17,000 ransom to hackers who infiltrated its computer systems in order to regain access, the medical center’s chief executive said Wednesday.

The anonymous hackers were able to encrypt the computer systems of Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, shutting down communications in what is commonly termed a “ransomware” attack. They then offered a decryption key at a price of 40 bitcoins equal to approximately $16,664 U.S. dollars, a hard to trace Internet currency.

Workers at Hollywood Presbyterian noticed the network problems on Feb. 5 and immediately informed law enforcement, but ultimately decided to pay the ransom, which CEO Allen Stefanak said was “in the best interest of restoring normal operations.”

There is no evidence any patient data was compromised, Stefanak said, and patient care was not affected by the breach.

The FBI is still on the case, though, saying in a statement, “we are investigating the compromise with partners at LAPD to determine the person or group responsible,” but giving no details or any indication as to whether there are any suspects.

Nigerian man who attempted to withdraw money from another man's bank account jailed for 6 months in Dubai

The unemployed Nigerian man who tried to withdraw more than Dh500,000 from the bank account of a man who had lost his Emirates ID was sentenced to six months in prison today, February 8. He will be deported after serving his sentence.
The 26-year-old was found guilty at Dubai Criminal Court of using an original official document belonging to others and of forging an official document - the withdrawal slip - by signing it and adding his personal details, as well as using the forged slip, and attempting to fraudulently obtain Dh580,000.

He visited a bank on Khalid bin Al Waleed Road in Dubai and pretended to be Kenyan D M, 23, by signing an order to withdraw Dh580,000 from the latter’s account and using the card as ID.

On May 12 last year, the Nigerian was contacted by his friend, whose name and nationality were not given, after the friend had found the ID card. He asked the Nigerian to pose as the card holder to withdraw the money and he would get a share of Dh50,000.

It was not clear how his friend came to know that the Kenyan had that amount of money with this particular bank. The next morning, the Nigerian visited the bank but was thwarted when an employee spotted the difference between him and the photo on the ID. He managed to escape but was arrested in October in Al Baraha and referred to prosecutors.

"I lost my wallet two months before I was contacted by police to inform me that my card was used by someone to withdraw cash from the bank,” testified the Kenyan.

Buhari as good news for Europe

Martins Schultz, the President of the European Parliament, minced no words in describing why Europe is enamoured of our President, Muahmmadu Buhari, so much as to give him the honour of addressing the continent’s legislative arm.

The big endorsement President Buhari got is on account of the outstanding wars he has waged so far on corruption and terrorism, wars that have been described as templates for Africa and the rest of the world. Increasingly, he is admired for delivering good governance humbly and honestly.

This given opportunity, as many have noted, was the first time a Nigerian President – and the second African – had addressed the EU parliament.

In his opening remarks, President Buhari did not miss the opportunity of acknowledging this recognition. “I am honoured and humbled by my choice to address this occasion,” he told his receptive audience.

Koeman criticises Wanyama after third red card of the season

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman will have words with Victor Wanyama after the midfielder saw red yet again.

Wanyama was sent off for the third time this season when he chopped down West Ham United’s Dimitri Payet during Saints’ 1-0 win.

The sending-off may have looked harsh, but it left Southampton to play the remaining 36 minutes with 10 men as they clung onto Maya Yoshida’s early goal.

“From the referee’s position it’s a red card,” said Saints boss Koeman. “I was in front of it, and maybe it was harsh, but from his position maybe the tackle looked harder.
“But it was a hard tackle and it gives the referee the possibility to give a red card.

L-E-A-K-E-D! Reasons Behind Buhari’s Vacation - Pray for Buhari

buhari efcc

President Muhammadu Buhari today began a five-day vacation, to end on February 10, spokesman Femi Adesina said in a press statement.

He further stated that the president, complying with Section 145 (1) of the constitution, sent a formal notice to the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will perform the functions of the President during his absence. During the President’s visit to the United Kingdom, President Buhari will undertake a visit to medical doctors in a London hospital.

“Our presidency source said President Buhari agreed to participate in a Syrian solidarity that ended yesterday because it provides a perfect cover for the medical visit.

“The source further said there has been a debate within the presidency about the medical visit, with some of his handlers arguing that the Syria meeting provides a perfect alibi as the President should not be seen to be sick less than one year after taking power.

It might be recalled that following the six-week postponement of the presidential election, Mr. Buhari spent a prolonged period in London, reportedly to rest. He subsequently spent another nine days in London to meet with his doctors, returning only one day before his inauguration.

According to the current schedule, President Buhari will return home next weekend if everything goes well.

current news now gathered that Mr. Buhari’s personal physician, Suhayb Sanusi Rafindadi, has been playing a prominent role in preparing him for foreign trips in recent months.

Upon his return from London, the President will embark on another trip to the Middle East, visiting Egypt, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia is prepared to deploy ground troops to Syria to fight the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) if US-led coalition leaders agree to the offer.

Saudi’s air force has targeted ISIL with air strikes since the campaign began in Syria in September 2014, but the Gulf kingdom is now ready to provide ground forces to defeat the armed group, a military spokesman said on Thursday.

“Today, the Saudi kingdom announced its readiness to participate with ground troops with the US-led coalition against ISIL, because we now have the experience in Yemen,” Brigadier General Ahmed Asseri told Al Jazeera.
“We know that air strikes cannot be enough and that a ground operation is needed. We need to combine both to achieve better results on the ground.”
